Q.              Do I need a permit to place a shed on my property?

 

A.                 With the adoption of the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code, any accessory structure with less than 1,000 square feet is exempt from a building permit, unless there will be electric or plumbing in the structure. However, all structures require an application to be completed to ensure compliance with the Center Township Zoning Ordinance.

 

Q.                 I just moved into Center Township, whom do I use for trash pickup?

 

A.                 You are authorized to contact any trash collector.  The three main collectors serving the Township are:

Q.        What items may I recycle?

 

 A.       At a minimum, the following materials shall be separated for recycling; 1) No. 1 and No 2 HDPE and PET plastics; 2) clear, amber or green glass; and 3) steel and bimetallic containers (commonly referred to as cans). You must contact your trash carrier to inquire their day of collection.

 

Q.        When am I allowed to burn?

 

A.        You may burn Monday through Saturday, 6:00AM to 6:00PM, no Sundays or Holidays.  All fires must be attended by a responsible person and must be extinguished by 6:00PM.  Recreational fires are authorized at any time. Burning of leaves is prohibited.

 

Q.        Do I need a permit to remove a structure from my property?

 

A.        Yes, you will need to contact Judy Heichel, 724-285-4501, for a tax certification and the Township office, 724-282-7805, for a demolition permit.  These permits are required to remove the structure from the tax rolls.

 

Q.        How do I contact the office to report a problem after hours?

 

A.        Call the office number 724-282-7805 and report the problem to our answering service.  They will make the necessary contacts to resolve the problem.

 

Q.        Do I need a permit to erect a fence on my property?

 

A.        Yes, a building permit is required.
